AVB Celebrates the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of the New Charles & Lynn Zhang Portage Community Senior Center
AVB celebrated the grand opening of the new Charles & Lynn Zhang Portage Community Senior Center this month with the City of Portage. Governor Whitmer, Mayor Randal, the City of Portage City Council, City of Portage Staff, and the Portage Senior Center Team cut the bright red ribbon and welcomed the community in to tour their new facility. Outfitted with pickle ball courts, weight room, mezzanine, dining room and full kitchen, along with several meeting and gathering spaces, this new facility is five times the size of the previous center. We are proud to be part of the team who brought this new center to life, which will serve our community for many years to come. Click here to learn more about the new Portage Community Senior Center.

Meet Our Monroe-Brown Intern, Obaid!

AVB is excited to introduce our 2022 Monroe-Brown intern, Obaid Hakimi! In 2018, Obaid graduated from WMU's Master program as a Fulbright Scholar, then moved back to Kabul, Afghanistan to use his degree to support his home and community. In 2021, Obaid and his family were forced to flee into Pakistan. WMU was able to bring Obaid and his family back to the US to participate in WMU's PHD program. We are incredibly happy to have him with us this year! The Monroe-Brown Foundation was established for the purpose of promoting higher education for Michigan students. Since its formation, more than $8 million has been contributed to higher education causes. We are glad to be part of this organization. Team Bonding Under Spring Sunshine
Burnout is real, so it's important to take some time to relax and appreciate the work you've successfully put in place. Team AVB did exactly that this month, gathering at the Turning Stone community park to enjoy the spring sunshine, eat delicious tacos, and move our bodies on the pickle ball courts! All work and no play makes AVB a dull company, so we make sure to get together, not just as co-workers, but as friends. It makes work so much more fun!
