Riverbend at Capital Breaks Ground in Battle Creek

After nearly eight years of planning, Riverbend at Capital officially broke ground, marking the beginning of a redevelopment that will reshape a prominent site in Battle Creek and create lasting opportunities for the community.

Built on the former Kmart property, the development will bring 80 affordable and workforce housing apartments, along with a community center that will include an early childhood learning center operated by Bright Light. The project has been designed with long-term sustainability in mind, incorporating energy-efficient building systems, solar carports, electric vehicle charging stations, and other features that will help reduce environmental impact while lowering operating costs for years to come.

Projects like Riverbend at Capital demonstrate how thoughtful development can do more than revitalize a vacant property. They can strengthen neighborhoods, expand access to housing and childcare, and create spaces that support the people who call them home. As Construction Manager, we're proud to partner with Edison Community Partners and the many organizations whose commitment has made this project possible. It was a privilege to celebrate this milestone together, and we're excited to help bring this long-envisioned project to life.

Mid-Year Renovation Roundup

Renovation projects have remained a steady part of our work throughout the first half of 2026, with projects spanning municipal, healthcare, senior living, and commercial facilities. Each one has required a thoughtful approach to improving existing spaces while supporting our clients' ongoing operations.

One of the largest renovations underway is the City of Kalamazoo's Crosstown Facility, where we're helping transform the building into a modern municipal hub. The project includes extensive interior renovations, structural improvements, upgraded security systems, and energy-efficient building enhancements, all designed to create a more welcoming and functional space for City staff and the community.

Our team has also completed the renovation of 11 memory care apartments and a new connecting corridor at Heritage Community's Hawthorn Landing, refreshed office space at Airview Center in Portage, completed Nulty Insurance's renovated Plainwell office, and partnered with Beacon Health System on a variety of renovation projects, including clinical spaces, equipment installations, facility upgrades, and improvements at Beacon Health & Fitness Three Rivers.

These projects are a reminder that construction isn't always about building something new. Sometimes it's about giving an existing space a new purpose, improving how it functions, and helping our clients continue serving the people who depend on them.

AVB Summer Party

Rainy weather didn't stop us from enjoying this year's AVB Summer Party at Schrier Park in Portage. Team members and their families spent the afternoon catching up, sharing a meal, and making the most of the day, with plenty of friendly competition at the cornhole boards under the pavilion. We also took time to celebrate AVB's 45th anniversary with a commemorative banner that everyone had the chance to sign. It was a great opportunity to step away from the jobsite, spend time together, and celebrate the people who make AVB what it is.
