Tall Timbers Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Earlier this month, AVB joined project partners, city officials, and community members to officially cut the ribbon on Tall Timbers at Greenspire—a brand-new luxury apartment community in Portage, MI.
The LEED Gold-certified development brings 180 upscale apartment units to the area, featuring underground parking, rooftop courtyards, and easy access to nearby trails and amenities. Tall Timbers reflects years of thoughtful planning, collaboration, and a shared commitment to creating high-quality housing that connects residents to both comfort and community.
During the ceremony, attendees heard remarks from several key leaders who helped bring the project to life, including Greg Dobson, COO of AVB; Sarah Snoeyink, Community Development Manager at the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC); Portage Mayor Patricia Randall; and Jonas Peterson, CEO of Southwest Michigan First. Each speaker reflected on the importance of this development for the region and the power of public-private partnerships in driving progress.
This milestone was made all the more meaningful following the May 2024 tornado that caused unexpected damage to the site just months before opening. Thanks to the resilience and dedication of our team, we were able to Build it back Better—a true reflection of AVB’s mission to Build Something Better in everything we do.

Kalsec Grinder Building Groundbreaking
This month we broke ground, alongside Kalsec, on their new endeavor, the Grinder Building. Over 100 Kalsec team members gathered in Kalamazoo to mark the start of construction—a milestone years in the making. The new facility is designed to enhance scalability, streamline operations, and drive innovation across product lines such as heat, flavor, color, and food protection. Engineering Manager Carrie Davis noted that this groundbreaking represents years of planning and engineering, backed by full support from the Kalsec Board and leadership. We’re proud to support Kalsec’s continued growth and look forward to seeing this project take shape. Stay tuned for more updates as construction progresses.
