AVB Appoints Derek Mathieu as New Vice President of Commercial Construction Operations

Portage, Michigan, AVB has announced that Derek Mathieu has been appointed the new Vice President of Commercial Construction Operations. An experienced project manager, Mathieu will be the first to step into this important new role for the company.

Derek Mathieu has worked at AVB for eighteen years in various roles and most recently as a senior project manager. After graduating with his bachelor’s degree in civil and construction engineering, Derek interned at AVB and has since moved up through every position offered within the commercial construction division from construction assistant cleaning job sites to managing multiple complex projects as a senior project manager. 

“Derek embodies the AVB way in every project he manages,” said Andrew Schipper, AVB’s new President of Commercial Construction. “We know from experience he is the best person to fill this vital new position and will be a great resource for our team.”

While at AVB, Derek has managed numerous challenging and difficult projects, often managing multiple jobs at a time. Additionally, Derek was instrumental in launching AVB’s project management software PROCORE, by performing the initial testing and reporting its successes and challenges on projects he was running. Derek has worked on the following projects, to note a few: Stryker World Headquarters, Portage Northern High School renovations and additions, the Corner at Drake development, and 950 Trade Centre maybe with a note about multiple other financial institutions, offices, retail, restaurant, and K-12 projects.

“Derek’s expansive knowledge of the construction industry and his first-hand experience of working at AVB make it clear he is the perfect fit,” said former president of commercial construction, Jack Michael. “For years we’ve been utilizing his breadth of knowledge and experience to make major decisions on projects, so we know without a doubt he will be the perfect support for our team and our new president of commercial construction, Andrew Schipper.”

Derek Mathieu received his B.S. from Western Michigan University.
