In November, our team proudly joined Charter Township of Kalamazoo officials and community members to break ground on the future Eastwood Fire Station at 2409 Texel Drive. The new facility replaces the current 1940s-era station on East Main Street, which no longer meets today’s operational needs. As construction manager for this $11 million project, we are excited to help deliver a modern home for the Eastwood Fire Department — complete with three extended apparatus bays, updated living quarters, and space for future growth in equipment and staffing.
The design also incorporates energy-efficient systems and site improvements that support long-term sustainability for the Township. With demolition completed earlier this fall, construction is officially underway and targeted for completion between late 2026 and early 2027.
We’re honored to partner with the Township and its first responders in building a facility that will strengthen emergency response and enhance service to the community for decades to come.
We’re honored to share that AVB has been selected to receive the Jaguar Award from El Concilio for 2025. El Concilio presented the award to us at their Nuestras Raíces Gala in Kalamazoo, recognizing our commitment to supporting and creating opportunities for Latinx and minority communities — including job creation and support for small minority-owned businesses.
In their letter, El Concilio’s CEO noted that AVB has “created job opportunities for members of the community” and made “very intentional efforts to support small minority-owned businesses,” contributing to a stronger, more inclusive Kalamazoo.
Receiving this award reinforces our dedication to equity, inclusion, and community partnership. As our Director of Business Development said, “Efforts like these truly bring people and communities together.” We are deeply grateful to El Concilio for this recognition — and we remain committed to supporting the Latinx and minority communities of Southwest Michigan.
We look forward to continuing our work with El Concilio and other community partners to build opportunity, support growth, and strengthen our shared community.
We were honored to volunteer at the Veterans Day breakfast on November 11 at Air Zoo, hosted by the Portage Zhang Senior Center. It was a privilege to welcome veterans, active-duty service members, and their families for a warm meal and free entry to enjoy the museum’s exhibits.
Being part of this event reminded us how important community is and how meaningful it is to give back to those who served. We extend our deepest thanks to each veteran who attended, and to the organizers at Air Zoo and Portage Zhang Senior Center for creating such a memorable morning.
We look forward to supporting more community events like this in the future.
