2025 in Review

2025 was a year to remember at AVB. It was filled with great memories, candid moments, steady progress, and a lot of teamwork behind the scenes. One of the highlights of the year was welcoming 14 new team members to the AVB crew and seeing how quickly they jumped in and made an impact. We also celebrated some major milestones out in the field, including 4 groundbreaking ceremonies that marked the start of exciting new projects. On the other side of the timeline, we had the opportunity to celebrate project completions too, with 3 ribbon cutting ceremonies recognizing the hard work it takes to bring a project across the finish line. One moment that really stood out was Mattawan Consolidated Schools Stadium Track and Field, where we broke ground in March and were celebrating the ribbon cutting by August, all within about six months.

Beyond the jobsite, 2025 was also a year of staying connected. We spent time in the community, supported local events, and continued building relationships with the partners and organizations that make Southwest Michigan such a great place to live, work, and learn. We also had a strong presence at career fairs and student events, meeting the next generation of construction professionals and sharing what AVB is all about. And throughout it all, we captured plenty of the in-between moments too, including jobsite updates, progress photos, celebrations, and the everyday wins that deserve recognition.

We’re proud of what we accomplished this year and grateful for the people who made it happen, including our team, our clients, and our partners. We’re looking ahead to 2026 with that same focus, energy, and commitment.

Affordable Housing in Focus: AVB’s Role in Building Community

At AVB, housing is more than rooftops and walls. It is foundational to community, stability, and opportunity. In recent years, we have been proud to contribute to a range of housing projects in Kalamazoo and beyond, spanning a mix of market-rate, workforce, and income-based affordable units that help meet diverse local needs.

One of these efforts is 530 Rose Place Senior Living, a senior housing community in downtown Kalamazoo designed to offer comfortable, accessible living for older adults close to the amenities of the city. This project reflects the importance of providing supportive environments where residents can stay connected and thrive.

In the Northside neighborhood, 315 E. Frank Street reflects a targeted approach to affordability on a smaller scale. Built on a former brownfield site, this workforce housing project brings new units to the area while also supporting the broader vision for neighborhood revitalization and community-focused development.

Just a few blocks away, Harrison Circle Apartments added new housing within the River’s Edge District, supporting a growing live-work-play area with a mix of apartment units and street-level retail. Projects like this help strengthen neighborhoods by expanding access to housing near downtown services, employment, and recreation.

Looking ahead, the transformative River’s Edge Apartments continues to take shape. Once complete, this development will deliver a significant number of new units and contribute to long-term neighborhood growth through thoughtful amenities and community spaces. Similarly, The Legacy Senior Living is currently in progress and will expand affordable senior housing options, offering rent-restricted units designed for low- or moderate-income households along with shared spaces that encourage connection.

Each of these projects represents a different part of the broader housing landscape, and together they demonstrate the scale and diversity of housing needs in our region. We are grateful to work alongside developers, local partners, and community stakeholders to help bring these projects to life. Through every phase of construction, AVB remains committed to building housing that supports people, strengthens neighborhoods, and makes a lasting difference across Southwest Michigan.

Mt. Zion The Legacy Senior Living Project Update

Work continues to move forward at Mt. Zion Legacy Senior Living in Kalamazoo, bringing this important senior living community closer to completion. Recent progress includes interior work throughout the building, ongoing MEP rough-ins, and exterior advancements as weather has allowed. Materials such as metal panel siding have been delivered, and roofing installation is well underway.

In the weeks ahead, teams will continue interior finishes, complete roofing as conditions permit, and prepare for upcoming testing and inspections. Each step brings us closer to delivering a senior living community for Mt. Zion that will provide safe, comfortable housing and a meaningful resource for residents in the Kalamazoo area.
