Kalsec has broken ground on its new Grinder Building at its Kalamazoo campus, an investment designed to expand production capacity and strengthen operational efficiency. This facility will serve as the first step in Kalsec’s food production process, where raw spices sourced globally are ground for extraction. The building is engineered to enhance scalability and streamline operations across multiple product lines, including heat, flavor, color, and food protection. Site development includes stormwater management systems, ADA-accessible parking and pathways, and soil erosion controls. The structure will incorporate durable materials and energy-efficient systems to meet modern performance standards, with attention to spill containment and stormwater treatment as part of environmental safeguards.
The design vision reflects Kalsec’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The Grinder Building will create a smarter, more efficient workflow that supports global demand while maintaining the company’s family-owned values and B Corp certification standards. The layout prioritizes operational flow for grinding and extraction processes, integrates advanced safety measures, and provides flexibility for future expansion.
This project represents years of planning and engineering, backed by full support from Kalsec leadership, and underscores the company’s mission to unlock the potential of people, nature, and science to nourish the world.
