In August, Ferris State University (FSU) opened two new student housing facilities constructed by AVB. The new wood-framed buildings consist of 15, four bedroom, two bathroom, units. The new buildings were designed by Progressive AE to fit seamlessly into the existing West Campus community.

A key challenge for this project was the removal and replacement of 9,000 cubic yards of unsuitable soil before starting foundations. With the help of FSU’s GIS mapping technology and the approach of the AVB team, we were able to remove the soil to keep the project on schedule and under budget.

AVB Completes Gull Lake Ministries Project

AVB has just completed Gull Lake Ministries’ new housing project. This 5,790 square foot building features individual luxury apartments that incorporate beautiful Laminate Vinyl Tile (LVT) flooring and large windows. The interior and exterior were designed and decorated to replicate a coastal Savannah cottage.

The new building also features 2,444 square feet of deck area. The deck design includes custom built deck railing panels to enhance the exterior. Alongside the upgraded exterior railings, AVB built a custom fire pit for the enjoyment of guests. For more information about this project, contact Jack Michael at jmichael@avbinc.com.

Annual Fall Event: Sunday November 6th

Join AVB on Sunday, November 6th in our popular Homestead community for our annual fall event! This event will feature a new model home, our popular Covington plan, that is 2,638 square feet with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. During this event, guests will have the opportunity to be the first to tour this new model home, view all of the selections and features, as well as get more information about the community and our newest options and opportunities.

Homestead, located in the City of Portage and Portage Public School district, is one of our 8 master planned communities located throughout Kalamazoo County. It is wooded and rolling with 25 acres of dedicated green space and paved recreation paths throughout the community. All community roads have concrete curbs and gutters with street lighting and sidewalks. The home sites range from 1/3 to 3/4 of an acre and include wooded, cul-de-sac and estate-sized home sites.

We are excited to congratulate Impact Label Corporation on their relocation to their new facility in the Comstock Business Park. AVB had the pleasure of constructing their new 31,000 square foot facility that houses a mix of printing production and office space. Their new building features five private offices, collaborative office space with 16 workstations, two large conference rooms, break room with outdoor seating, art department and over 21,000 square feet of printing production space. The new facility also includes three loading docks and a second floor mezzanine that contains a fitness room and extra space for storage.

Impact Label’s new facility is a pre-engineered building that incorporates conventional construction elements on the exterior such as large windows, stone masonry and attractive entrance canopy. For more information on this project please contact Jack Michael at jmichael@avbinc.com.

AVB Team Places 2nd in the Fred Meijer 200 Mile Relay

Over the summer, AVB participated in the annual Fred Meijer 200 Mile relay from Cadillac to Comstock Park. Our team of seven began their adventure at Lake Cadillac, starting at 10 p.m. After running all night, our “All Night Express” team took second place, finishing the race at 3 p.m. the next day!

All the proceeds from this fun event went to Friends of White Pine Trail, whose mission is to develop the entire path to allow guests the opportunity to walk or bike ride freely between the two cities.

AVB supports an active lifestyle and giving back to the community. The Fred Meijer Relay was a great opportunity for those two core values to intersect.

AVB Takes a Stand for Safety

In early August, our commercial and residential teams took a Stand for Safety with the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), a state government agency that regulates workplace safety and health in the state of Michigan. This took place on their 12th annual ‘Take a Stand for Safety’ day. MIOSHA encouraged all high-hazard workplaces across the state to partner with them, without fear of fines or penalties, to improve the health and safety of their work environment.

“It is our priority to ensure the safety of everyone involved in our projects.” -Rex Trott, Safety Officer, AVB

Our teams were up early to welcome the two MIOSHA safety and health professionals onto our construction sites at our Corner@Drake development and our Walden Woods community in Kalamazoo. They toured the sites, answered questions and reviewed all of our safety procedures on both sites..

AVB is committed to the safety of all employees, clients, and the community. We have created and continue to support a culture where safety and regulatory compliance come first and are never compromised for other project goals.
